Notre président Mwai Kibaki a annoncé officiellement ce matin la découverte de pétrole dans le district de Turkana.

« J’ai appris ce matin par le Ministère de l’énergie que notre pays a fait une découverte exceptionnelle concernant l’exploration de pétrole. En effet, ce week-end, la compagnie Tullow Oil qui explore les terrains 10BB du district de Turkana à la recherche de pétrole a découvert un puit à Ngamia-1, d’une profondeur de 846 à  1 041 metres. Ils ont établi qu’il y aurait plus de 20 mètres de ce qu’on appelle techniquement par « Oil pay ». Pour ce que ce puit soit rentable, la compagnie devra percer plusieurs puits adjacents« 

« C’est la première fois que l’on découvre du pétrole au Kenya et c’est une très bonne nouvelle pour notre pays. Mais ce n’est toutefois que le début car faire du Kenya un pays producteur de pétrole pourrait prendre plus de trois ans. Nous vous donnerons plus d’informations sur ce puit de pétrole à fur et à mesure qu’elles arrivent.«
